Summarize and/or respond to Marder’s discussion of the ethics of eating plants as well as Steeves’ short piece on rocks and ethics. How might plants be more aware/intelligent than we usually think? How do we approach eating itself if we have to care about plant life in addition to animal life? How do rocks teach us about ethics?

Sundry Musing: do you think Mars, as a planet, has any “right” to be left alone (that is, is it wrong of us to terraform it–thus necessarily altering its atmosphere–for human life if it could ever be possible to live there to escape global warming here on earth”? Or is that a dumb question and of course we should do it if we can? Are humans “at home” anywhere int he universe we can get to? What does place mean to a species?
