Nurse Educator Philosophy Statement

  Assessment Instructions

For this assessment, develop your own nurse educator philosophy statement. Identify your beliefs and values regarding the adult learner, learning environment, and teaching strategies and applicable learning theories that you will use as an educator. Address how this philosophy will guide you in the tripartite roles of a nurse educator—how it will guide your teaching, scholarship, and service. Support your philosophy with your knowledge of historical events that are pertinent to your work. In addition, identify the competencies that you see as critical to your role.

In sum, your philosophy statement should guide your practice as a nurse educator.

Your educator philosophy statement should do the following:  Identify the area of nursing education or the area in health care in which you will apply your MSN, education specialization skills, and knowledge. Formulate your nurse educator philosophy statement, which should comprise your beliefs and values regarding the adult learner, learning environment, and teaching strategies and applicable learning theories that you will use as an educator. Apply your philosophy statement to each of the tripartite roles of the nurse educator. What does your philosophy mean for your approach to teaching, scholarship, and service? As you discuss the role of teacher, be sure to address any theories (adult learning theory, learner-center education, and others) that shape your approach as an educator. Analyze the relationship of significant historical events that have shaped the role you seek to fill. Analyze the most essential nurse educator competencies necessary for this MSN-prepared nurse educator. Explain why you selected the competencies you did. Conclude with a summary. Additional Requirements

Your assessment should meet the following requirements: Written communication: Written communication should be free of grammar and spelling errors that distract from the content. APA format: Use correct APA format, including running head, page numbers, and a title page. Citations and references (if used) are to be in correct APA format. Format: Submit your assessment as a Word document. Length: 3–5 double-spaced pages, not including the title page and references page. Font and font size: Times New Roman or Arial, 12 point.

Answer all 5 questions

Question 1

Visit the website of the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.

1What are the requirements to take the credentialing exam? What is the current cost and schedule for the exam? Would you take the exam to obtain the Certified Health Education Specialist credential? Why or why not?

2Speak with a CHES. Determine his or her perceptions on the benefits of the certification. Determine the costs, including time and money, to maintain the credential.

3Examine the Responsibilities and Competencies for Health Educators in Appendix B. They are supposed to be generic competencies, meaning they are practiced by health educators in all settings. Do you believe that they are truly generic? If not, identify sub competencies that you feel are not used in all settings. Are there competencies that may be practiced by health educators in a given setting which are omitted.

4There are no specific references in the Responsibilities and Competencies for Health Educators knowledge about health content (e.g., sexuality, drugs, disease prevention, and nutrition). Many professionals feel that content is “embedded” in the sub competencies. How do you feel about this issue: should specific content be included; is knowledge a competency; can you determine if and where content is “embedded” in the sub competencies?

Question 2

What are the standards and processes for a community health program to receive the SOPHE/AAHE Baccalaureate Program Approval Committee accreditation? Compare the two in rigor, standards, and effects on the programs.

Question 3

Look ten years into the future and predict how educational technology will be developed and used. Remember to include satellites, fiber optics, Internet, personal recognition devices, and the vast array of personal devices available. Include applications to classrooms, worksite, and distance learning. Consider the effects of technology and accreditation requirements on the future of education.

Question 4

Study the population trends in your state. For example, what are the rates of increase or decrease in minority populations, various age groups, and immigrants? What problems and opportunities do these trends suggest for health educators/promoters? Suggest some programming ideas to meet the needs of the shifting population.

Question 5

Identify a current health controversy that is being addressed by the governing body of your state or city (i.e., health insurance for illegal immigrants). Consider the perspectives of both the opponents and supporters of this issue, state the reasons for their positions, and provide your own personal opinion as to how the overall health of the community would be best served. From a health education and promotion perspective, what strategies could you use to promote the benefits of your point of view?

Fire Research Problem

Developing the Research Problem and Question Developing the research question can be one of the most challenging parts of the whole process. A well-defined research question should be narrow in scope and should be a question to which the answer is not already known through other published material. After all, if the answer is already known, there is no need to create a research study to answer that same question again. This assignment focuses on developing your research problem, the purpose statement, and research question. First, discuss your research problem. Be sure to support your points with scholarly material. For example, do not simply assert that health and wellness is a problem in the fire service. Demonstrate this by supporting your point with scholarly material. Include a few solid paragraphs of description. Next, include the purpose statement. This should be a sentence that clearly tells the reader what you intend to accomplish by creating the study. Finally, create a research question you would like to investigate for your project. Remember that the question needs to be unique. One way to accomplish this is to make the question specific to a particular department or jurisdiction. This activity should be at least one page in length. Be sure to summarize, paraphrase, and cite the information. Do not copy directly from the textbook or from any other source. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations and entries in the reference section. All references and citations used must be in APA style.

Nursing Assignment: Cardiovascular Disorders

Cardiovascular Disorders

Veins and arteries are vital elements of the cardiovascular system. They carry the blood supply through the body and are essential for proper function. Sometimes veins and arteries malfunction, resulting in cardiovascular disorders. Malfunctions of arteries and veins are similar to malfunctions of a water hose. Consider the structure and function of a hose. A tap releases water, which then travels through the hose and comes out the other end. If the hose has been dormant for several months, dirt and rusty particles might build up inside, resulting in a restricted flow of water. Similarly, buildup of plaque inside the coronary arteries restricts blood flow and leads to disorders such as coronary heart disease. This disease is one of the most common cardiovascular disorders, and according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (2011), is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. In this Discussion, you examine the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disorders such as coronary heart disease.

To prepare:

·         Review this week’s media presentation on alterations of cardiovascular functions, as well as Chapter 23 in the Huether and McCance text. Identify the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disorders.

·         Select one patient factor: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior. Consider how the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disorders.

·         Select one of the following alterations of cardiovascular disorders: peripheral arterial disease, myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, or dysrhythmia. Think about how hypertension or dyslipidemia can lead to the alteration you selected.

QUESTIONS TO BE ADDRESSED IN MY ASSIGNMENT:

1.     A description of the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disorders.

2.     How the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology.

3.     Explain how hypertension or dyslipidemia can lead to the alteration you selected for patients with the factor you identified.

4.     Summary with conclusion

REMINDERS:

1. 2 pages

2. Kindly follow APA format for the citation and references! References should be between the period of 2011 and 2016. Please utilize the references at least three below as much as possible and the rest from yours.

3. Make headings for each question.
