What patient populations, other than mine, would the Theory of Unpleasant Symptoms work well with?
apa paper Discussion #3 The middle range theory that I think fits my project best is the theory of unpleasant symptoms (TOUS). This theory was developed in 1995 and adapted in 1997. Its intended use is for nurses and clinical researchers. The theory suggests that experience and management of a symptom will supply the experience and management of other symptoms. I chose the topic of early mobilization for post surgical patients. This theory ties into my project because when you ambulate patients early after any surgery you are addressing one symptoms or aspect of their health to prevent others. This acts as a prophylactic gesture. So basically addressing one symptom to prevent/treat another symptom. The symptoms are considered to have a multiplicative or an additive relationship with one another.
