Santa Fe College Mod 7 Use of Data Discussion

Please include references to support your discussion (written within the past 5 years) at the end of your initial post and support your response to classmates. An initial post with in-text and end of text references in APA format and a minimum of 2 peer replies are required. Your replies should be meaningful and not just simply stating you agree with a peer or thanking them for their input – think how you would respond with the intent to continue the discussion.

You may not realize it but, almost everything you do or document is likely used as data. Such data can
be coded as a quality initiative variable (patient satisfaction) or a rate (rate of infection; readmission).
Other data may be specific to a facility or population. Where nurses were once somewhat removed
from quality reports, they are a common discussion with each staff meeting. Nurses are likely
associated with most initiatives whether directly or indirectly.

1) Module 7 readings directed you to explore various databases (under General References and Resources). In regards to what you encounter everyday in the workplace, what stood out to you within the databases reviewed.

2) Explore nursing literature. Share a study using a database as a benchmark for the study ( i.e. Press Ganey’s patient satisfaction score – as an outcome variable in a study; or Hospital Compare’s HAI rate). Were national averages were included? Do you see your workplace as part of the study? What are your thoughts?
