Use the following criteria to evaluate an authorâ€™s use of literature.
â€¢ Look for indications of the following ways the author used literature: â€¢ Introduce a problem â€¢ Introduce a theory â€¢ Provide direction to the research questions and/or hypotheses â€¢ Compare results with existing literature or predictions â€¢ Did the author mention the problem addressed by the study? â€¢ Is the purpose of the study stated? â€¢ Are key variables in the study defined? â€¢ Is information about the sample, population, or participants provided? â€¢ Are the key results of the study summarized? â€¢ Does the author provide a critique of the literature? â€¢ Are sources cited to support points? â€¢ Are the citations to recent literature (within the past 5 years with the exception of seminal works)? â€¢ Does the literature justify the importance of the topic studied?
