Discussion question and peer reviews
DISCUSSION POST MUST BE 10+ SENTENCES AND THE PEER REVIEWS MUST BE 7+ SENTENCES PLEASE USE YOUR OWN WORDS AND DO NOT COPY FROM OTHER SITES STAY ON TOPIC ,BE POSITIVE , AND DO NOT COMMENT ON GRAMMAR ERRORS. TALK DIRECTLY TO CLASSMATES IN PEER REVIEWS!!! YOU MUST COMPLETE BOTH PEER REVIEWS AND DISCUSSION QUESTION!! THANK YOU.
1) DISCUSSION QUESTION
Part 1: Post a Response
Our focus this week is on ecology. Ecology is the study of interactions among organisms and between organisms and their physical environments. Watch the video entitled “Some animals are more equal than others…” found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1142&v=hRGg5it5FMI. Then address the following two issues:
- Why do you think that many keystone species are predators at the top of the food chain in their respective ecosystems?
- What do you think is the most interesting or significant facet of the video?
2) PEER REVIEW #1 (JESSICA)
Hello Dr. Cox and Class,
Why do you think that many keystone species are predators at the top of the food chain in their respective ecosystems?
Keystone species as these species have the capacity of ensuring the balance of the ecosystem by controlling the number of herbivores found in an ecosystem. These predators play a role in regulating the ecosystem. These predators at the top of the food chain when you remove the predator from ecosystem it affects this ecosystem. The species decrease as one species pushes out other herbivores. This keystone species guarantees healthy completion between the various species therefore ensuring a balance in this ecosystem by limiting the domination of any one species.
What do you think is the most interesting or significant facet of the video?
The most interesting facet of the video is the manner that ecologist Robert Paine actions to remove Starfish from this ecosystem led to the domination of the muscles in this ecosystem. The Starfish exclusion identified the role that keystone species play in ensuring that the ecosystem is diverse by limiting the domination of one species. The Starfish was identified as a marine keystone species through the impact it had on the population sizes of other species. Therefore, the removal of the keystone results in the collapse of the ecosystem.
3) PEER REVIEW #2 (SHERRY)
Hello Professor and Classmates,
Why do you think that many keystone species are predators at the top of the food chain in their respective ecosystems? From my understanding of these keystone species I believe that the keystone species not only assist but guarantees healthy relationships amongst these different species, in other words, ensuring a well-established balance in the ecosystem by limiting the strength and domination of anyone specific species.
What do you think is the most interesting or significant fact of the video? The most interesting fact from the video to me is how ecologist Robert Paine demonstrated by removing the starfish species that resulted in major failure within the ecosystem.
